Hospital bill nightmares and 3 easy steps you can take to avoid them. Going to the hospital is stressful enough and then there is the recovery process. When you are recovering from surgery the last thing you need is financial stress from the bills.
To avoid hospital bill nightmares I’ve put together 3 easy steps you can take before you go into surgery that will help avoid any confusion on who and what is covered.
3 Easy Steps
- Call your insurance carrier as soon as you know you are having surgery. (there is a 1-800 number on the back of your card.)
- Give them the names & titles of each person that will be involved on your surgical team to ensure they are in your network. This includes the anesthesiologist, nurse practitioner, and any additional specialists. You can obtain a list from your surgical coordinator.
- Write down the name of the person you spoke to along with the date and time. If any portion of your claim is not covered it is important to be able to have a record of past communication.
When you are heading into the Emergency Room or for Elective Surgery you can make your visit go more smoothly when you come prepared with pre-filled Medical History docs and a current Medication List. Below are two forms you can download and pre-fill before you head into any hospital for any reason.
