5 Amazing Family Fun Places around Chicago are closer than you think. Now that 2020 is behind us parents and grandparents are looking forward to enjoying summer around the Chicagoland area in 2021. Most things have reopened and restrictions have been lifted. It is beautiful to see our state returning back to normal.
As a parent and hopefully one day a parent I wanted to share some great facts as to why kids should stay active and outdoors in the summer. Activity releases endorphins making kids happier and the exercise will tire them out so they go to bed earlier and sleep throughout the night. This gives parents and grandparents time to sit back and reflect on the day and all they enjoyed. Below are 5 of my favorite places to visit in Chicago and the Chicago suburbs along with one hidden gem in Indiana right over the border. Hope you enjoy it! Don’t forget to like and subscribe to my YouTube channel and check back each week for Mondays with Mark.
Shedd Aquarium Fully Reopens on June 11th!
Last week the Shedd Aquarium reopened fully to the public. This is one of my favorite places to visit. There is a 1-year-old baby beluga and of course, the otters are a ton of fun to watch. All the walking will keep you feeling healthy too!
Don’t forget to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan.
The Shrine of Christ’s Passion
Located in Indiana you won’t want to miss these amazing statues of Christ. You don’t have to be religious or a Christian to enjoy these pieces of art. They are so detailed and dramatic and there is still stuff for the kids to enjoy! Again, more walking is good for the body and soul. You can bring a basket full of fresh fruit or find a restaurant nearby.
Sarah’s Stables – Trail Rides, Petting Zoo & Farm
A hidden gem in Willow Springs. This super cute little farm is filled with so many things to see and do. The kids can enjoy the petting zoo and the entire family can get out on a trail ride. They have ponies and horses for all ages and skill levels.
Centennial Beach in Naperville
Right in the heart of downtown Naperville, you can enjoy a beach that was handcrafted in 1931. They have real sand and a beach PLUS a pool and tons of splash pads. There is also a grille with delicious food and you are within walking distance of the famous Naperville Riverwalk. More activities to keep you healthy this summer.
My marketing assistant personally loves the paddle boats and kayak rentals located directly across from the beach.
Children’s Farm at the Center
Pictured here is my Marketing Assistant’s daughter, a junior farmer at the Children’s Farm for 4 years. She stated it was the most magical place to take your child. They have all sorts of pigs, goats, bunnies (Juicy is the BEST), chickens, and horses on top of a veggie and herb garden. If you join their summer camp your child will even taste different herb varieties as they pick them fresh from the garden and bring home farm-fresh eggs. This place is educational, functional, and fun!
